It seems like class diagrams in UML methodology are very similar to ERDs except for the methods. However tying of methods with data in a class structure is reminiscence of one of the major problems in the pre-database era pertaining to application/data dependency. Also it runs counter to the independence of process from data. Given the popularity of UML, are we putting the clock back or maybe I am missing something. Any thoughts??

On the contrary: you are spotting something: What is a class?

And yes, time has been pushed back; I'll agree with you on that.

Class is similar to the entity structure. It seems like the object behavior (methods) associated with the class structure is encapsulation of process + data in the process-oriented approach of the past. Does UML support three-level database framework?
